California Institute of Technology
2009 Scholarship Recipient
I graduated from the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) in 2013 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Economics and Management. The LAFD Scholarship not only made financing my education possible, but also allowed me to dedicate time, I might have had to spend working, to leadership in my community. At Caltech, I served as Captain of the intercollegiate swimming team, Vice President of Non-Academic Affairs and joined committees to revise the institute’s anti-hazing and inclusion policies.
After two years of working as a corporate supervisor in Phoenix, AZ for a legal technology corporation, I’ve started my first year at UCLA School of Law. There I’ve continued the trend of leadership that LAFD Scholarship enabled. I’m currently serving as Class President, a member of the Diversity Action Committee, and a member of the Dean’s Student Advisory Council. I’ve also volunteered pro bono hours in the L.A. community though El Centro Legal’s legal clinics, and I provide guidance to undergraduates interested in law school as a Law Fellows Mentor.
I will be spending this summer interning for Kirkland & Ellis, LLP as part of the corporate law group in downtown L.A. I have no doubt that the LAFD Scholarship have been integral to my academic and professional success.
